Why do I love creativity? I have been interrogating myself on this for long, and it has not been easy to find an answer. I must say I have a sort of obsession for creative minds, out-of-the-box thinking and “ solutionising”. To be honest, this is what makes us human. This is the real differentiation we have from other species. Once I found that out, I soon realised that was the right path towards the key that would have opened the doors to the resolution of my obsession.

Being creative is a characteristic that comes from imagination. In fact, imagination is one of the most powerful tools that our mind can give us. Why is that? That is because it allows us to think of things that do not exist in the real world. You may think I am crazy at this point of reading, but what if I told you to think about a pink elephant with white wings on the top of the world with a golden crown on his head. There is no pink-winged elephant on the top of our planet, but when you close your eyes it is right there in front of you. You can clearly picture it into your mind, and you can even hear it trumpet if you want.

You see! You can create absolutely everything in your mind even if it is not real. Now, just think of the millions of things that humanity created out of imagination from money to legal entities, corporates, states, governments and kingdoms. People in history have been given great powers because society recognised them as leaders who could take them to the final dreamt goal they had imagined, and people going towards the same goal were soon identified as a nation.

Now, think of every object you use in your everyday life. Probably none of them exists in nature and still you are using them every day to accomplish your goal or simply make your meal. It all came from the mind of an inventor, or an artist, who was brave enough to believe they could really create it from their imagination.

Dreams can become real when we strongly believe in them; that is why nowadays we need artists as much as we need engineers. If Isaac Asimov had not written his stories on Robotics in the 50’s, people would not have enrolled in engineering and STEM programs in college to let those stories about AI, video calls, computers and robots become reality. We would not have had airplanes today if people had not dreamt of flying. We would not have had cars, smartphones and instant messaging if people had not imagined a world in which distance should not be an issue anymore.

For these reasons, every time you think of something that is only in your imagination and you want to turn it into reality, you need to persist and try and try again. Even when people will say it is impossible, you can close your eyes and see it is there. Even if you fail, it does not mean you will not make it. After all, the greatest strength winners have is their ability to loose. So, next time you feel creative do yourself a favour; just close your eyes and look at it as it is there!
